To celebrate, we decided to amp up our yearly company trip and spend the weekend in Lisbon, Portugal. We gathered at Schiphol, Brussels, Stockholm and Copenhagen airports on Thursday evening to fly out to our destination. We found ourselves in a nice, small scale hotel right above ‘Pink Street’, a famous bar street. Those of us that still had some energy went right to exploring it.
After a good night sleep and a nice breakfast, Friday morning brought us our first activity: a guided bike tour along the water. This provided us with a nice and active way to view most of the coastal side of the city. The guides shared some interesting info about some of the highlights.
After the bike tour, we sat down for some sandwiches and a few of the traditional Portuguese pastries. We tried to convince Marc that this should be the new standard pastry for our monthly get together, but he quickly labeled that as ‘impossible’. Shame.
The afternoon brought us some more sightseeing, but this time in a tuktuk. Whilst whisking us around, our drivers attentively told us all about the sights. Once we returned to the hotel, it was time for some R&R and, for those up for it, a few drinks at one of the many roof top bars. This was then followed by a great dinner.
Day two brought us more activities. We had decided to spend the day on the water at Sesimbra. We were put into kayaks and were told to start paddling. The goal for today was lunch at the beach, so with that to look forward to, we set of. After lunch, we did have to peddle the same way back.
The evening was a repeat of the first day. First we had a few drinks at a rooftop bar, then dinner followed accompanied by traditional live music.
Sunday was free for everyone to enjoy as they wanted. We deliberately did not plan any activities so people could find a place to hang out, or leisurely stroll through the city before it was time to return to the airport.
It is safe to say we had a blast. We are already looking forward to our 20 year anniversary.
Perhaps you will be there?
